The most crucial skill to develop, is to be present. It isn’t always easy to give someone your full attention, when you have a million things to do. However, giving a member of your team the attention they need, in that moment will really make them feel valued. They need to know that the person leading them, cares enough to stop what they are doing and help or listen to them. Putting down your phone, or moving away from the laptop to really listen will ensure your conversations are a better quality. Paying attention in that moment, can also pre-empt problems before they happen, as you have been able to give the advice at the right time.
